Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 May / Trend corr I. Alizade/ On 6 May, the Azerbaijani Parliament held a special meeting in honour of the 85th anniversary of the all-nation leader Heydar Aliyev.
In his speech Speaker Ogtay Asadov stated that had Heydar Aliyev been in power at the beginning of the 90s, Armenia would not have occupied the Azerbaijani territory. "Removal of Heydar Aliyev from the USSR administration caused the disaster that Azerbaijan has been faced with. It was after that time that the execution of treacherous plans towards Azerbaijan commenced," Speaker said.
According to Asadov, had Heydar Aliyev not returned to power in 1993, Azerbaijan would have lost its independence. Within four months Aliyev created a working mechanism in the legislative body.
"Heydar Aliyev's services to the Azerbaijani nation are irreplaceable, unforgettable and incontestable. His contributions are of great historical importance," he said.
