Nine members of the U.S. free-style wrestling team will take part in the international wrestling
contests in Tehran. The contests will be dedicated to
the memory of Gholamreza Takhti, the most famous wrestler in Iranian history,
IRNA reported.
U.S. wrestlers will contest in the 60 kg, 84 kg, 96 kg and 120 kg weight categories.
The international contests will take place in the Azadlig sports hall in Tehran on Mar. 12-13. The hall can host 12,000 people.
Gholamreza Takhti was the best-known champion of Iran. He was the second
athlete representing Iran at the Olympic Games. Takhti won a gold medal for Iran and was awarded the title of national hero. Iran holds contests dedicated to his
memory every year. The wrestlers are awarded Gholamreza Takhti Prize.
