Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 26 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/
An Azerbaijani opposition party is drawing up bills to submit to Parliament.
A chairman of an Azerbaijani opposition party, who is also a Member of Parliament, will initiate amending and supplementing some laws, as well as discuss some new bills at Parliament's autumn session.
"The relevant party agencies are currently devising new bills and this process will be finished by Sept. 15," Chairman of the Umid (Hope) Party and MP, Igbal Aghazadeh, told Trend on Aug. 26.
The opposition Umid Party was founded in 1993. The Civil Union Party (CUP) merged with the Umid Party in 2002. Former Chairman of the CUP, Aghazadeh, was elected as Chairman of the Umid Party. Aghazadeh is a Member of Azerbaijan's Parliament.
Aghazadeh said that his party firstly supports amending and supplementing the "Status of Municipalities" law. "Parliament adopted a law on merging the municipalities in the spring session. This was an important step to turn the municipalities into active agencies. But the municipalities still depend on the executive authorities," the parliamentarian added.
The chairman of the party said it is necessary to increase the municipalities' status - for their more independent activity. "We also want to amend the law on "Political Parties". In addition, we will have proposals on amendments and supplements to the Election Code," Aghazadeh stressed.
The MP said that they will seek to discuss amendments to relevant legislations on the protection of civil property rights in Parliament during the next session.
