Muslim scholar: Hezbollah not represents true Islam

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 10 / Trend R.Hafizoglu /

'Hezbollah' does not represent authentic Islam, head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars Yusuf Al-Qaradawi stated, 'Al Arabiya' reported on Monday.

According to Qaradawi, the fights in Syria showed that 'Hezbollah' expresses the position of Iran, not the Syrian people.

Previously, the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah declared his intention to continue to support the Syrian authorities in the fight against the rebels. Immediately afterwards the Syrian opposition members fired on the Shiite neighbourhoods of Beirut, and promised to strike at other targets in Lebanon.

The Free Syrian Army is threatening to move its combats to Lebanon in response to an armed clash with Hezbollah militants in the Syrian town of Al-Quseir. The Syrian rebels demanded the Government of Lebanon put an end to Hezbollah's activity in the battle of government forces against opposition in Syria.

In Syria, for more than two years, government forces have clashed with the armed opposition. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 82,000 and nearly three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.

President of Lebanon Michel Suleiman claimed that 'Hezbollah' is a Lebanese resistance group and has nothing to do with the fighting in Syria.
