The US remains a strong advocate for an independent, sovereign and democratic Azerbaijan, and doesn't prejudge or attempt to influence the outcome of any electoral process, a message from the US Embassy in Azerbaijan said Dec. 19.
"We look forward to continued cooperation with the government and people of Azerbaijan on a range of issues," the message read.
"The US Embassy is aware of reports that put forth anonymous claims about US policy on upcoming elections in Azerbaijan that are grossly inaccurate," the message said. "The US Embassy was not asked to verify these claims and we firmly reject them. Chargé Hogan did indeed meet with several political parties across the political spectrum to better understand their views."
