Azerbaijan, Georgia sign bilateral military co-op plan for 2018 (PHOTO)

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov has met with a delegation led by Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a message March 9.

According to the message, before the meeting, the Georgian delegation visited the Alley of Honor, revered memory and laid flowers at the graves of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev and outstanding ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva. The delegation also visited the Alley of Martyrs.

Then the official welcoming ceremony of the Georgian delegation was held at the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry. The defense ministers of the two countries held a one-on-one meeting. Afterwards, a meeting in expanded format was held.

Greeting the guests, Hasanov stressed that the strategic partnership is at a high level and this plays an important role not only in the development of countries, but also in ensuring security in the entire region.

Stressing that the two countries cooperate in the military sphere by ensuring the security of regional economic projects, programs implemented both bilaterally and within the NATO, as well as in the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia military format, Hasanov stressed the importance of expanding the spheres of this cooperation.

Hasanov said that Armenia poses a serious threat to the regional security and renders constant support for separatism at the state level.

Once again expressing gratitude to the Georgian people for supporting Azerbaijan in international organizations and recognizing its territorial integrity, the Azerbaijani minister stressed that the country also recognizes and supports Georgia’s territorial integrity.

Expressing gratification with another visit to Azerbaijan, Izoria stressed that this is a clear example of the high level cooperation between the two countries.

Stressing the important role of the friendly relations between the Azerbaijani and Georgian presidents in the development of ties between the two countries, Izoria emphasized the importance of such meetings in terms of expanding cooperation.

During the meeting, Hasanov and Izoria discussed cooperation in arms control between the Azerbaijani and Georgian defense ministries.

The sides also exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in military, military-technical, military-educational, military-medical spheres, holding of joint military exercises, working meetings and issues of mutual interest.

At the end of the meeting, a plan of bilateral cooperation for 2018 was signed between the Azerbaijani and Georgian defense ministries.
