BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14. At least seven Azerbaijani soldiers were subjected to torture, cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment by the Armenian Armed Forces during the second Karabakh War, a report prepared by the US Department of State said, Trend reports.

The report states that three incidents of abuse were caught on video.

"In one of the latter cases, the mistreatment may have resulted in the victim’s death, although this was not independently confirmed. Systematic beatings, inhuman conditions of detention, denial of medical care and other basic needs, cruelty and humiliation described by witnesses or captured on video amounts to a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions by Armenian Armed Forces,” the report said.

US Department of State emphasizes that violation of the ban on torture is a serious crime under the Criminal Code of Armenia itself.

According to the same report, eight videos from social media appeared to show “the ill-treatment and despoliation of dead Azerbaijani soldiers by members of Armenian Armed Forces.

The US Department of State also notes that there was video evidence that members of ethnic Armenian Armed Forces unlawfully executed two wounded and captured Azerbaijani soldiers.

The report states that all credible allegations of despoliation of the dead require further investigation.

US Department of State notes that in December 2020, the Azerbaijani authorities opened a number of criminal cases to investigate the actions of Armenian military personnel during the second Karabakh War on charges of serious violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) during armed conflicts.
