Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / The state of activities of Interior Ministries and police of CIS member-countries in enforcing illegal migration, as well as development of concrete steps for boosting the efficiency of interdepartmental interaction in this area will be discussed at a meeting of CIS Council of Interior Ministers in St Petersburg on 15-16 June. The CIS Executive Committee announced on 14 June that the Council will hold an irregular meeting.
Heads of states of CIS member-countries decided on an informal meeting in St Petersburg on 10 June to consider one priority problem and define a coordinated resolution on the issue. The problem of migration was the first.
Within the framework of CIS there is a legislative basis in the sphere of migration and active work is carried out to implement the Agreement on Cooperation of CIS member-states in fighting against illegal migration from 6 March 1998. Moreover, a program on cooperation of CIS member-countries in counteracting illegal migration in 2006 - 2008, confirmed by the CIS Council of Heads of States, dated 26 August 2005, the Executive Committee announced.
Procedures to coordinate a draft agreement on major principles of cooperation in the sphere of migration of citizens of CIS member-states and a draft Rule on Council of Heads of Migrations Administrations are nearing to end. The documents will be put up for discussion at the Council.
