Several Prisoners to be Transferred from   Baku to Nakhchivan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 29 April / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva/ In near future, prisoners in the prisons of Baku and various other provinces will be transferred to the prisons and investigation cells of Nakhchivan.

Nazim Alakbarov, Azerbaijani Deputy Justice Minister and head of the Penitentiary Service, said to journalists on 29 April that over 300 prisoners and defendants are registered in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR). "For the first time in our practice we will implement mass prisoner transfer," Alakbarov said.

Several days ago, a new investigation cell and a prison corresponding with the international standards were put into operation in NAR. Fifteen prisoners are serving their sentence in them.

Alakbarov said that Penitentiary Service has commenced its operation in NAR. It will employ over 400 employees; while at present only 100 have been hired.

According to Deputy Minister, central administration of the Penitentiary Service has been formed and Shahin Tahmazov, Deputy Justice Minister of NAR, has been appointed as the head of Penitentiary Service.
