Washington to Host Discussions over Development of Azerbaijan-USA Strategic Partnership Relations

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 September / Trend corr. I.Alizade/ Washington will host discussions over further development of strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the United States.

"On 1-2 October, Washington will be hosting a 2-day conference The Role of Diaspora in Development of Strategic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States," State Committee on Work with Azerbaijanis Residing Abroad said to Trend on 2 September.

State Committee on Work with Azerbaijanis Residing Abroad and the USA-based U.S. Azeri's Network (USAN) are the organizers of the event.

The conference will discuss rising political activity of Azerbaijani diaspora in the United States, the way it has passed and its further prospects, today's condition of Azerbaijanis in the United States, integration of Azerbaijanis residing in the United States with the U.S. society and their role in development of public relations, recommendations to Azerbaijani diaspora regarding intergovernmental relations and the relations with the Congress and public.

State Committee reported that another part of the event will be mainly dedicated to energy security. Enhancement of strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the United States, energy security and the role of Azerbaijan's energy reserves in bilateral and multilateral relationships will be discussed.

US Azeri's Network prizes will be presented to active representatives of the USAN for their assistance in creation of the diaspora.

Participating in the conference will be: Azerbaijani Ambassador to the United States Yashar Aliyev; the head of Azerbaijani Representative Office at the UN Agshin Mehdiyev; MPs Ganira Pashayeva, Asim Mollazade; Azerbaijan's Consul-General to Los-Angeles Elin Suleymanov; employees of the State Committee on Work with Azerbaijanis Residing Abroad; a representative of the U.S. State Department and of the World Bank, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary General, country's representative for energy policy in the Caspian and Black Sea regions Matthew Bryza; a member of the U.S. Congress, co-chairman of the Azerbaijani Friendship Group Solomon Ortiz; chairman of the Azerbaijani and Turkish Businessmen Union Ahmet Erentok; USAN executive director Adil Bagirov; the newly elected President of the Assembly of Turkish Associations in USA Gunay Evinj; chairman of the Heritage Foundation Ariel Cohen; chairman of the Azerbaijani-U.S. community Tomris Azeri; representatives of Azerbaijani, Turkish diasporas and of the Jewish community, as well as all USAN activists. Azerbaijani Minister for Communication & IT Ali Abbasov, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan State Oil Fund (SOFAZ) Shahmar Movsumov and Vice-President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Elshad Nasirov were invited to the event.
