Azerbaijani diaspora will be foremost in rank in coming years: Chief of State Committee

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 18/ Trend , J. Babayeva/ In the coming five years Azerbaijani diaspora will  be foremost in rank of diaspora organizations of other countries, Nazim Ibrahimov, chief of the State Committee on Diasporas, said to reporters.

"There are already remarkable results in this regard," he said.

He said the Charter of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis which will be adopted at the meeting of Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis across the world, will speed up unification of diaspora organizations and will reflect general focus of activities.

"The charter will be important strategic document. It will reflect ways of influence of Azerbaijani diaspora on the political life of the country which it represents," he noted.

The Charter is expected to be signed at today's meeting, Ibrahimov added. The final document will be adopted in spring of 2009 after some amendments and will be submitted to the diaspora organizations.

The meeting of the Coordinating Council entitled Azerbaijan - Gate to East underway in Baku on Dec. 18 and is dedicated to Solidarity Day of Azerbaijanis around the world which is marked on Dec. 31 every year.

The Coordinating Council has been founded at the 1st conference of Azerbaijanis from across the world held on Nov. 9-10, 2001. The Council comprises 109 people 45 of whom live abroad.

The activities carried out since the 2nd conference of Azerbaijanis will be reviewed and future tasks and goals will be defined at the meeting of the Coordinating Council.
