Juridical protection of citizens' rights was improved in Azerbaijan compared to previous years, Chairman Ramiz Rzayev said at a plenum meeting of the Supreme Court on Jan. 23.
Chairmen of Juridical Boards of the Supreme Court made reports on state of courts, as well as discussed and analyzed this issue at the plenum.
The examined cases and received complaints were increased compared to 2007 at other boards except the Juridical Board on Economic Dispute Affairs.
A 7.1 percent-drop was observed at the Juridical Board on Economic Dispute Affairs, while 22.8 percent-growth was observed at the Juridical Board on Civil Affairs and 22.8 percent-growth - on Crime Affairs and 9 percent - on Military Affairs.
The abovementioned facts testify 19 percent of growth of cases which the Supreme Court received. Only 3,639 cases were examined at the Supreme Court in 2007, while this figure amounted to 4,333 in 2008.
A total of 41 decisions were passed on concrete cases at plenum meetings. Appeals were increased at the Supreme Court in 2008, as well.
Some 22,320 appeals were made in 2008. Appeals on cassation complaints fell by 2.6 percent.
The Supreme Court annulled only 2.5 percent of decisions which were made by appeal courts.
An action plan for the first half of 2009 was approved, as well as concrete crime and civil affairs were examined at the Supreme Court Plenum.
