Azerbaijani television channels have not made serious changes, Azerbaijani Presidential Administratio Chief Ramiz Mehdiyev said.
Television channels taken into account recommendations from critics. But they have not made the expected output, Mehdiyev told journalists today.
Mehdiyev stressed the shortcomings of television and radio stations outlined in an article published in the Azerbaijan newspaper titled "Ether Time of Azerbaijan: Problems and Tasks" on Oct. 2. Mehdiyev said the stations are showing an increasing number of low-quality entertainment programs, which are widely discussed by the public as disturbing phenomena.
According to the official, television plays an important role in Azerbaijani life.
"Television plays an important role in informing people and in their upbringing," he said. "However, television stations are not meeting the intellectual level of the Azerbaijani audience. Our main objective is to ensure that changes occur on television. They must produce shows for more intelligent citizens. Significant changes must be made to this area."
