Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 7 / Trend M.Aliyev /

Introduction of skills exams for entrants to journalism is not possible, because journalism is a specialty of general profile, State Student Admission Commission Chairman Maleyka Abbaszade told Trend.

"Every year more than 30,000 people pass the exams for a third group of specialties and many of them include journalism in a list of selected professions," Abbaszade said. "They all can not be brought to pass exams to identify the special abilities."

The Press Council earlier intended to introduce testing to identify skills needed for entrants into journalism training.

Chairman Aflatun Amashov said that research showed that up to 70 percent of journalism students were not interested in the profession and said that they were studying journalism by happenstance.

Mainly applicants that included journalism first in list of selected professions entered this faculty in the current academic year, Abbaszade said.

Abbaszade said the Press Council has not yet submitted its proposals to the State Commission.
