Slovenian-Azerbaijani Friendship Society holds its first meeting (PHOTO)

The Slovenian-Azerbaijani Friendship Society held its first meeting in the Nova Gorica city, the Azerbaijani charge d'affaires in Slovenia Emil Hasanov told Trend today.

Chairman, his deputies and members of the supervisory board of the society were elected at the event, organized in the historic castle Kromberk.

As a result of the voting, a member of the Society of Veterans, a former businessman, a resident of the Nova Gorica city, Ivan Bashin has been elected the chairman of the society.

In addition, the meeting also adopted a Programme of Action of the society, created with a view to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as further development of bilateral relations. According to the adopted program it is planned to implement joint projects in such fields as economics, education, science, culture, tourism and sport.

The event was attended by the Nova Gorica city's mayor Mitya Trtnik and Azerbaijan's charge d'affaires in Slovenia Emil Hasanov.

After the event, the participants got familiarized with the photo exhibition of works of the Slovenian culture figure Vesna Chrnivets

devoted to the ancient village of Lahij of the Azerbaijani Ismayilli region.

At present, the Friendship Society's members are about 80 representatives from various government and NGOs, businessmen, scientists, journalists, and veterans of the World War II, as well as supporters of the Soviet Union's Hero Mehdi Huseynzadeh known as Mikhailo.
