Establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is an indicator of statehood traditions of the Azerbaijani people, editor in chief of Azerbaijan newspaper, MP Bakhtiyar Sadigov told Trend.
"28 May is a very valuable and glorious day for us. We are glad that in the entire Muslim East, the first Democratic Republic was established in Azerbaijan. The establishment of the Republic has historical roots. There should be a prerequisite to create such a state. This is the existence of traditions of statehood, decent staff, people who love their nation and state, their introduction to the democratic values and freedom in the creation of such a republic," said Sadikhov.
He said despite the short existence of ADR, at the time Azerbaijan achieved considerable success.
"During 23 months of the ADR's existence, considerable work was done in promoting the country on a world scale, establishing diplomatic and political relations with other states and creating legislative base," said Sadikhov.
He said exactly as a result of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev's efforts, Azerbaijan's state independence more strengthened.
"The great leader Heydar Aliyev's return to power in Azerbaijan upon people's demand after the restoration of independence did not allow the fate of ADR to repeat. He turned the independence of Azerbaijan into eternity. In the period of Heydar Aliyev's power, Azerbaijan continued work started during the ADR," Sadikhov said.
He said the ADR is a glorious page in Azerbaijan's history.
May 28, 1918 Azerbaijan declared its independence and the establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. April 28, 1920 XI Red Army of Soviet Russia invaded Azerbaijan and ADR collapsed.
