The number of lawyers in Azerbaijan has doubled during the last seven years, Deputy Minister of Justice Togrul Musayev said at the international conference Development of the Bar in Azerbaijan and the effectiveness of appeals to the court in Baku today.
"Many reforms were carried out during the years of independence in the Azerbaijani legal system," he said. "As a result, the number of lawyers has doubled and hit 850 compared to 2004. At present, another 177 candidates graduated making them eligible to practice law."
The conference is organised by the Institute of Human Rights of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences together with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the OSCE Baku office.
"The Bar and the judicial system develop," Director of the Institute of Human Rights of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, MP Ayten Mustafayeva said at the conference. "The Azerbaijani government should pay more attention to this area."
