The 19th National trade fair of beekeeping products will be held in Baku on October 5-28, Asaf Omarov, the Head of the Department of Animal Development of the Ministry of Agriculture told Trend October 4.

He noted that 371 entrepreneurs have brought 150 tons of honey to the fair.

"Of this volume, five tons fall to the share of honey frames. Most beekeeping products have been brought from Astara and the Aran economic region," Omarov said.

The head of the department stressed that there are 271,682 bee colonies in Azerbaijan.

"Every year, on average, each colony produces ten kilograms of honey, the volume of annual honey production in the country is 3,000 tons, the volume of honey consumption is 5,000 tons. Most bee families are situated in Zagatala (17,097), Astara (12,429), Gakh (9,125), Lerik (8,669) and Balaken (8,581) regions," the head of the department said.

Omarov added that the Ministry of Agriculture was responsible for the annual organization of the fair and the quality of the beekeeping products.

"This year, the ministry is responsible only for organizational issues," Omarov said.

The Chairman of the Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association Badraddin Hasratov said less honey has been produced this year compared to last year, so the prices will differ from last year’s prices.

"While a kilogram of honey carried was 20 manats last year, the price will be on average 20-25 manats this year," Hasratov said.

He noted that the beekeepers are free to set prices for their products.

The sale of honey will be organized at the National Stadium named after Tofig Bahramov at the following address: Fatali Khan Khoyski Street, 10. The fair will open at 12:00 (GMT + 4).
