Azerbaijan reveals increase in passenger traffic by sea

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 25. Passenger traffic by sea in Azerbaijan amounted to 20,100 people from January through October 2023, increasing by 13.6 percent year-on-year, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan told Trend.

In the reporting period, cargo transportation by this mode of transport in the country amounted to 7.6 million tons, which is 21.1 percent higher than in the same period of 2022.

Oil cargo accounted for 55.6 percent of cargo. Seaports performed loading and unloading operations of 11.15 million tons (9.2 million tons or 82.6 percent were transit cargo).

As of November 1, 2023, the volume of cargo remaining in the ports amounted to 366,700 tons.

In 2022, Azerbaijan’s freight traffic by all transport modes grew, amounting to 218.7 million tons, up by 12.8 percent on annual basis, while, passenger traffic exceeded 1.6 billion people, which was 33.5 percent more than in the previous year.
