“The Council on TV and Radio Broadcasting did not receive any frequency list for opening of new TV channels,” Nurshiravan Maharramly, the chairman of the Council, told Trend.
He noted that the statement made by Ali Abbasov, the Communications and Information Technologies Minister, on free opening of new TV channels was unserious.
Several days ago Abbasov stated that the broadcasting frequency spectrum allowed opening of new channels without any problems.
Maharramly also stressed that opening of new channels was regulated by the Council on TV and Radio on base of frequency list submitting by the State Commission on Radio Frequencies. In accordance with the legislation the State Commission on Radio Frequencies and the Communications and Information Technologies Ministry must submit the list once in a year, which is published in press. Then they announce competition on opening of new channels.
According to Maharramly, they did not receive similar list. “Let Abbasov to send the list to me, then new channels will be opened,” he underlined.
Maharramly also stressed that they received many addresses on opening of channels, but the Council on TV and Radio Broadcasting decided to consider the legal activities of the current channels. The rest issued will be solved after it.
