Shahriyar Mammadyarov scores 1.0 point on results of two rounds of chess tournament

Traditional chess tournament started in Veyk-an-Zee, Holland, with participation of strongest world grand masters. Azerbaijani chess-player Shahriyar Mammadyarov was included into the list of the participants instead of diseased V.Kramnik several days prior to beginning of the competition.

At the first round Azerbaijani grand master plaid with French E.Bakro (2717) and had to agree with draw.

At this round one of the talented world chess-players Ukrainian V.Ivanchuk (2729) defeat Armenian L.Aronian (2752), Indian V.Anand (2792) demonstrated next masterpiece to the world in the game with young Ukrainian S.Karyakin. The current world champion, holder of fantastic rating 2801 Bulgarian V.Topalov became winner. He defeated American of Tatar origin G.Kamskiy, who was once an infant prodigy.

At the second round the rival of Sh.Mammyarov was strong Dutch grand master Luk Van Veli. The rivals agreed with draw. At this round Ivanchuk defeated Dutch player of Serbian origin I.Sokolov. Englishman M.Adams (2707) gained a victory over V.Topalov, G.Gamskiy - Israeli of Belarus origin B.Gelfand (2723), French E.Bakro - Dutch of Soviet origin S.Tivyakov.

After two rounds V.Ivanchuk became a leader with 2 points from possible 2. V.Anand, E.Bakro and M.Adams scored 1.5 points, while Sh.Mammadyarov ranked sixth with 1.0 point.

The third round will be held on Monday.
