Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr S. Babayeva / Faig Aghayev, the Director of the Scientific-Research Institute on Pulmonary Diseases, informed on 13 March that there are more than 8.000 consumptives in Azerbaijan.
The real number of the consumptives greately exceeds the figure due to the issue that all of them have not been registered.
Agayev informed that some cases end in death. "The disease rate has doubled over the recent years," he said.
The Director noted that the death cases have decreased by 10-12 times.
"Presently our key purpose is to register all of the consumptives not only in Baku, but also in the regions of the country," Agayev stressed.
The World Health Organization, the German Government, GOPA and other international organizations assist Azerbaijan in fighting against tuberculosis.
