K.Zarbaliyev / On 15 May the Azerbaijani Court Martial on Grave Crimes, under chairmanship of the Judge Jamai Ramazanov, passed a sentence on Vusal Garajayev, a soldier with the Azerbaijani Armed Forces who was taken prisoner by the Armenian forces in December 2006. He was sentenced to 11 year's imprisonment.
Originally, the prosecutor suggested that Garajayev be sentenced to a total of 13 years imprisonment. This was then passed to the court to reconsider the sentence.
The Investigative Administration of the Court Martial on the Grave Crimes filed a lawsuit on Garajayev in accordance with Article 274 (betrayal) and Article 338.1 (violation of military duty rules) of the Criminal Code.
Garajayev, 19 years old, was taken prisoner in Aghdam on 7 December and released on 23 December.
