Turkmen embassy in South Korea organized a briefing in Seoul, dedicated to the prospects of Turkmen—South Korea cooperation, Turkmen Foreign Ministry said on Feb. 24.
Director of the Korea–Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat Lee Chul-woo called for development of comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan in transportation and energy sphere.
Representatives of South Korean Foreign Ministry, management of Korea–Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat and Korea—Central Asia Friendship Association, representatives of higher-educational facilities and business-structures participated in the event.
Launch of construction of the Turkmenistan—Afghanistan—Pakistan—India (TAPI) gas pipeline’s Afghan segment, the fiber-optic line on TAPI route, the Turkmenistan—Afghanistan—Pakistan electric power line as well as the Serhetabat—Turgundi railway are important elements of stability and prosperity in the region, the participants noted.
Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and South Korea have been systematically developing since their establishment in 1992, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said in a letter to his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov earlier.
It was earlier reported that Seoul hopes for partnership with Turkmenistan in such areas as development of gas fields, creation of petrochemical and gas infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Ashgabat and Seoul pay special attention to the transport sector in the context of development of transit and logistics infrastructure along the East-West and North-South routes, giving access to European and Middle Eastern markets.
The total trade between Turkmenistan and South Korea has recently grown from $200 million to almost $2 billion, according to the Turkmen side’s data.
