The purchase prices for cotton have been raised in Azerbaijan, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the ministry, companies engaged in the production and processing of cotton have decided to increase its purchase price by 50 manat ($29.4) per ton.
Thus, for the harvest of 2021, the purchase price for the first grade of cotton has been raised from 650 manat ($382.3) to 700 manat ($411.7), and for the second grade - from 630 manat ($370.6) to 680 manat ($400).
At the same time, the purchase price for the third grade has been increased from 590 manat ($347) to 640 manat ($376.4), and for the fourth grade - from 550 manat ($323.5) to 600 manat ($352.9).
The step is aimed at encouraging farmers to grow cotton.
Azerbaijani government supports the development of cotton growing in the country. Subsidies to farmers for each ton of cotton make up 100 manat ($58.8).
In 2020, over 336,000 tons of cotton were produced in Azerbaijan, and the average yield was 33.6 centners per hectare.
