BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. European gas imports from Azerbaijan increased by 40 percent since July 2022, the European Commission said, Trend reports.
The Commission noted that this resulted from the EU and Azerbaijan ratifying a new Memorandum of Understanding to establish a strategic partnership in the energy sector.
As such, both parties agreed to double gas deliveries to the EU by 2027 through the Southern Gas Corridor, and to enhance their collaboration in areas such as clean energy, energy efficiency, electricity transmission, and methane emissions.
Earlier, the Commission reported that over the first quarter of 2023, Azerbaijan supplied some 2.8 bcm of natural gas to Europe, making up 7 percent of the total pipeline gas supplies to the region, at the same time, ranking among TOP-5 gas exporters to the EU during the reporting period.
Meanwhile, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, gas supply from the country to Europe over the first 9 months of the current year amounted to 8.6 bcm out of the total 17.8 bcm exported throughout the reporting period. This marks a 9-percent growth in supplies year-on-year.
This year, gas production in Azerbaijan is forecast to stand at 48.7 bcm. From this amount 24 bcm are estimated for exports.
