BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 13. Azerbaijan's retail trade turnover grew by 3.5 percent from January through February 2024 compared year-on-year and reached 8.55 billion manat ($5.03 billion), Trend reports.
The turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 2.1 percent (to 4.726 billion manat, or $2.78 billion), while non-food products increased by 5.2 percent (to 3.828 billion manat, or $2.25 billion).
The data of the State Statistics Committee shows that in the reporting period of 2024, the population spent 50.1 percent of funds on food products, 5.1 percent on beverages and tobacco products, 15.3 percent on textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.3 percent on motor fuel, 4.7 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 2.4 percent on pharmaceutical goods and medicines, 1.3 percent on computers, and 15.8 percent on other non-food products.
During the reporting period, the value of goods sold by economic entities in the non-state sector increased by 3.6 percent compared to the indicator of 2023 and amounted to 99.8 percent of the total retail trade turnover.
Average monthly per capita retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan amounted to 420 manat, or $247, including turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products - 232 manat, or $136, non-food products - 188 manat, or $110.
In 2023, the turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan increased by 3.7 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and reached 58.997 billion manat, or $34.7 billion. The turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 2.5 percent (to 33 billion manat, or $19.4 billion), non-food goods - by 5.2 percent (to 26 billion manat, or $15.3 billion).
