BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. Azerbaijan boosted imports of tobacco and tobacco products by 0.5 percent from January to March 2024, compared to the same period last year, reaching $26.3 million, Trend reports.
According to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee, the import of
tobacco and tobacco products during the reporting period last year
was $26.2 million.
Tobacco and tobacco products accounted for 0.71 percent of total
imports in Azerbaijan during the 2024 reporting period.
However, in 2023, Azerbaijan boosted tobacco and tobacco product
imports by 23.54 percent over the same month last year, totaling
$119.9 million.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover fell by 17.63 percent, or $2 billion, from $11.7 billion to $9.6 billion between January and March 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.
In the reporting period, Azerbaijan's imports fell by $318.2 million, or 7.9 percent, from $4 billion to $3.7 billion. Imports accounted for 38.28 percent of total foreign trade turnover, up from 34.23 percent the previous year.
To note, while the balance of international trade turnover remained positive, it fell by more than $1.4 billion, or 38.77 percent, to $2.2 billion from $3.7 billion in the reporting period of 2023.
