European Commission Selects Consultant for Support to Implementation of PCA between Azerbaijan, EU

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 March / Trend corr I. Khalilova/ The European Commission selected a consultant for support to implementation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between the European Union (EU) and Azerbaijan - the consortium headed by the Greek company European Profiles, Rufat Mammadov, the Executive Director of the coordination office of the Technical Assistance for Azerbaijan program (Tacis) said on 30 March.

The contract with the European Profiles was signed two years ago. The Budget of the project comprises €3mln.

The consultant will assist in bringing the Azerbaijani legislation close the European standards in 17 fields envisaged in the PCA, in approximation of the action plan, as well as in informing the state structures and the public of the EU, the processes taking place in EU and the relationships between Azerbaijan and EU. The activities of the coordination office will be also supported by the project, Mammadov said.

The director of the project has already arrived in Baku and the international experts are expected to arrive at the beginning of April.

The assistance to implementation of the PCA is carried out within the framework of the Tasic national action plan on Azerbaijan for 2006 fiscal year which was approved by the European Commission on 15 June 2006. Last year Azerbaijan and EU signed the financial memorandum.
