Import of Rice & Wheat Flour Free of VAT & Customs

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 May / Trend corr I. Khalilova/ By the decision of the Azerbaijani Cabinet, on 30 April the import of rice, wheat flour and rye flour will not be charged Value Added Tax (VAT) or customs charges, Azerbaijani Government reported on 30 April.

These foodstuffs were included in the list of goods to be free of VAT when imported into Azerbaijan. Currently VAT in Azerbaijan is 18%.

The import of rice and flour will now not be taxed. Until now customs charges for the import of rice was 5% and 15% for wheat flour.

These privileges will be effective for one year. "Due to these privileges, the budget will lose a small amount, approximately AZN 1mln," Azar Bayramov, Deputy Finance Minister, said on 30 April. The minister did not rule out that, as a result of these privileges, the import of foodstuffs would increase. The arrangements are being carried out within the framework of providing foodstuff security in Azerbaijan.
