Turkmenistan was elected Chairman of the CIS Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification for 2010-2011.

The Turkmen media reported that the decision was unanimously adopted at the 37-th meeting, held recently in Odessa (Ukraine).

The council is an intergovernmental organization of the CIS. The next meeting will be held in Turkmenistan next year.

A meeting of scientific and technical committee will be held in autumn this year to implement the state control and analysis of compliance with standards, regulations and developing appropriate methodologies.

The main objectives are to create optimal conditions for fruitful international economic, scientific, technological and trade cooperation between producers in the vast space of the total product market, eliminate technical barriers in trade, improve competitiveness, and in this context, develop effective partnership in the field of standardization, metrology, certification and quality.
