Number of subsidized agricultural producers increased in Azerbaijan

In 2010, 399,578 producers of agricultural products received subsidies totaling more than 55.5 million manat from the state budget, Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov said.

In 2010, 399,578 producers of agricultural products received subsidies totaling more than 55.5 million manat from the state budget, Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov said.

"The subsidies were allocated upon the decision of the state commission operating under the agriculture ministry to purchase diesel fuel and motor oil, used in cultivation of 1.387 million hectares of sowing areas and perennial plantings," he said.

In 2009, 177,075 farmers received subsidiestotaling about 30 million manat. In 2009, the country's agricultural sector grew by 3.5 percent, including the sphere of plant growing - by 4 percent and livestock production - by 2.8 percent, in the framework of the state support to the agriculture.

At present Azerbaijani producers of agricultural products are provided with subsidies in the amount of 40 manat per one hectare. Furthermore, since 2007, 50-percent discount have been granted for purchase of lubricants, fuel and mineral fertilizers to farmers engaged in grain production.

The State Kapital Bank acts as the government's agent to issue subsidies.
