Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 22 / Trend E. Ismayilov /
According to the forecasts, JSC Azerbaijan Railways plans to transport more than 5.9 million passengers this year, a source in the company said.
A source said that the company transported 4.45 million passengers in January-November, or 24.5 percent less than it was forecasted.
He said that poor passenger transportation is observed in the direction of Russia and other routes passing through this country. The decline in passenger transportation in this direction is stipulated by the recent increase in bombings on railroads in the territory of Dagestan.
"The decline in passenger transportation is mainly observed in the northern direction because passengers are afraid of bombings in Dagestan," the source said.
According to the State Statistics Committee, Azerbaijan transported 179.9 million tons of cargo and 1.3 billion passengers in January-November.
