Foreign companies have expressed interest in investing money into the Iran's Imam Khomeini International airport, said airport's general director Mahmood Rasulnejad, Mehr reported.

Rasulnejad said that the investments are needed for building two additional transit terminals at the airport.

He added that two joint companies (Malaysian-Chinese, Turkish-German) expressed interest in investing the money and building the terminals. Rasulnejad said the negotiations on the deal are currently underway.

Imam Khomeini International Airport is located in Ahmadabad, Iran. The airport is located about 30 kilometres southwest of the city near the localities of Robat-Karim and Eslamshahr.

It was designed to replace Mehrabad International Airport, which is in the west of the city, now inside the city boundaries. The airport, originally designated as Ahmadabad, is now named Imam Khomeini International Airport.
