Iran’s zinc, lead output ups by 19 percent

Iran produced 95,577 tons of lead and zinc in the third calendar month of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 - June 20).

The figure shows a 19 percent increase compared to the same period last year, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on July 12.

The total zinc and lead production of the country in the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year stood at 223,581 tons.

Iran holds three percent of the world's mineral reserves, which puts the country first in the Middle East and third in Asia.

Iran is ranked among the 15 major mineral-rich countries of the world and exports its industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq , China , the United Arab Emirates, India and Afghanistan.

The important mines of Iran include coal, metallic minerals, sand and gravel, chemical minerals and salt. Iran has the world's largest zinc and second largest copper deposits and ranks ninth for its iron reserves.
