ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 6. The volume of work and services in Turkmenistan's transport and communication complex surged by 18 percent from January through April 2024, Trend reports.
Mammetkhan Chakiyev, the Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, made this announcement at a government meeting.
He reported that during the specified period, cargo transportation by road, rail, air, sea, and river routes saw a growth rate of 3.5 percent, while passenger transportation increased by 2.6 percent.
"The growth rate for the provision of services from January through April for the Turkmendemiryollary Agency (Turkmenistan Railways) is 4.3 percent, the Turkmenawtoulaglary Agency (Turkmen automobile service) is 10.5 percent, and the Turkmenhowayollary Agency (Turkmenistan Airlines) is 61.2 percent," Chakiyev said.
Additionally, he mentioned that during the specified period, the growth rate in service provision for the Turkmendenizderyayollary Agency (Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transportation) reached 14.8 percent, whereas for the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency (Turkmen Communications), it stood at 11.9 percent.
Meanwhile, given the strategic significance of advancing the transport and communications sector for bolstering economic growth and fostering international collaboration, Turkmenistan is vigorously pursuing extensive initiatives to modernize and enhance its infrastructure.
This endeavor encompasses the construction of new facilities and the modernization of existing ones, spanning highways, railways, ports, airports, and transport hubs.
