Kazakh banks increased their total assets by 17.9 percent in 2014

Kazakh banks increased their total assets by 17.9 percent in 2014, Kazakh National Bank reported on Feb. 5.

The total assets of Kazakh banking sector comprised of 38 banks exceeded 18.239 trillion tenge (184.75 tenge = $1) as of the end of 2014.

Total liabilities of Kazakh banking sector increased by 18.7 percent to almost 15.88 trillion tenge in 2014. The main part of the bank's liabilities falls on customer deposits - 71.5 percent of all the liabilities.

The share of non-performing loans which are overdue by over 90 days hit 23.5 percent of the banks' final loan portfolio. This index was at 31.2 percent as of Jan. 1, 2014.

Total assets of 34 insurance (reinsurance) companies operating in Kazakhstan increased by 17.2 percent in 2014 and amounted to 613.1 billion as of January 1, 2015.

The total liabilities of the insurance (reinsurance) companies reached 326.3 billion tenge as of Jan. 1, 2015 (21.3 percent increase since Jan. 1, 2014).
