Alisher Kurmanov has been appointed ambassador of Uzbekistan to Great Britain, the Uzbek foreign ministry said.

Kurmanov delivered his credentials to Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II expressed her respect for the rich history and culture of Uzbekistan, the role and place of the country during the period of the Great Silk Road and the modern development of Central Asia.

She stressed the interest of the British side in further strengthening of bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest, the statement said.

According to the foreign ministry, the foundation of the Uzbek-British relations was laid during Uzbek President Islam Karimov's visit to Great Britain in November 1993.

The officials of both countries regularly make various visits. The sides are holding the ministerial political consultations and a dialogue on Afghanistan. A promising area of cooperation is considered to be the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

An effective mechanism of the trade-economic relations is the Uzbek-British trade and industry council. As of late 2014, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Great Britain reached $106.1 million.
