Uzbekistan introduced a surcharge of 100 soums per kilogram of hand-picked cotton in Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Khorezm, Karakalpakstan, the Uzbek legal portal Norma.uz announced.
According to the information, the surcharge will not be taken into account in the final settlements with agricultural enterprises, since they are paid at the expense of the State Agricultural Support Fund of the Ministry of Finance.
In 2018, the wages of cotton collectors for each collected kilogram depend on the volume of fulfilled obligations under the contract.
At the same time, in certain regions and districts (except for the territories where cotton-textile manufacturing enterprises operate) daily surcharges are established.
Earlier the US Department of Labor removed Uzbek cotton from the so-called black list of goods produced using child labor.
The annual list compiled by the Department of Labor's International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB) has been published for the eighth time. Uzbek cotton got into it in 2009 when the list came out for the first time.
The Department of Labor notes that the solution of the problem has been achieved thanks to the concerted joint efforts of the government of Uzbekistan, the International Labor Organization (ILO), international non-governmental organizations and the US government.
