Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) Kanat Alpysbayev and Head of the Belarusian Railway Vladimir Morozov discussed the issue of increasing container traffic between the countries.

The parties held a meeting within the framework of the 69th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of CIS member states in Moscow, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy said in a statement.

During the meeting, they summed up the operational work between the railways of Kazakhstan and Belarus, noting the dynamics of growth in freight traffic compared to 2017.

"The volume of 280,000 containers is planned this year within the framework of the Eurasian Rail Alliance, while next year we plan to double the flow," Alpysbayev said.

Morozov also expressed interest in increasing mutual cargo flows.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided to hold a large meeting with the participation of shippers, as well as to simplify the mechanisms of interaction between the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Belarus.

The Eurasian Rail Alliance is a joint company of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus' Railways on the organization of cargo transportation on the China-Europe-China route through the territories of the EAEU countries.

Over the first 8 months of 2018, the volume of cargo traffic on the route amounted to more than 157,000 containers, which exceeded the results of the same period last year by almost twice.
