By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia was able to reduce the deficit in agricultural trade from $900 million to $300 million, said the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.
“The wrong, ineffective agricultural policy over the years has led to a reduction in this most important sector," the prime minister said. "Within the last six years, we were able to reduce this deficit to $300 million, and this is a huge success.”
As Bakhtadze noted, six years ago, the trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to $900 million.
“There were imported goods in the rural areas of Georgia that did not allow our farmers to have a successful business. We have once again demonstrated that when Georgian society unites, it can overcome any problems,” Bakhtadze said.
According to the minister, Georgia has gained a lot of knowledge and experience lately in the framework of the “Hazelnut Rescue Program” regarding pest control.
The “Hazelnut Rescue Program” is a state program that includes large-scale consultation work, raising public awareness for timely activities and avoiding damage to the hazelnut crop.
