As a result of the right policy in the agri-food sector of Georgia, the negative balance of foreign trade decreased from $753 million to $394 million in 2012-2018, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili noted that the main directions of the state program are outlined in the development strategy of agriculture, and it is fully consistent with economic policy, which includes manufacturing more Georgian products, expanding production, increasing self-sufficiency and increasing export potential.

“We see more and more new Georgian brands and products appearing on the market. This proves that we are moving in the right direction. Our goal is to become a net exporter of agri-food products after the launch of government programs,” Levan Davitashvili said.

According to the minister, since 2004, agricultural productivity has almost doubled. The growth rate of value added in the production of food and beverages has become even higher, which is natural, since the food industry creates added value, the basis of which is primary agricultural production, he said.
