Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan continues to grow

The total value of products sold to the population of Azerbaijan through retail network in January-August 2019 increased by 2.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 24.2 billion manats, Trend reports referring to the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

During the reporting period, 12.2 billion manats’ worth of trade accounted for food products, soft drinks and tobacco products, and 12 billion manats’ worth to non-food products. Compared to the same period last year, the value of sales increased by 2.6 and 3.2 percent, respectively.

In January-August, 45.8 percent of the population’s expenditures were spent on food products, 4.7 percent on soft drinks and tobacco products, 18 percent on textiles, clothes and shoes, 6.1 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 5.5 percent on automobile fuel, 1.3 percent on medicines and medical products, 0.8 percent on computers, telecommunications equipment and printed products, and 17.8 percent on other non-food products.

During the aforementioned period, 20.6 percent of consumer goods were sold by trading enterprises, 49.3 percent by private entrepreneurs, and 30.1 percent by markets and fairs.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, retail trade turnover of enterprises increased by 27.3 percent, while that of private entrepreneurs increased by 0.1 percent and trade turnover of fairs decreased by 5.2 percent.

Furthermore, the average monthly retail turnover per capita amounted to 305.6 manats during the said period, which is 12.8 manats more than during the same period of 2018.
