By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The construction work in the 2nd phase of the Shahid Beheshti port in the Chabahar county of Iran’s south-eastern Sistan and Baluchestan province advanced by 40 percent, Director General of the Ports and Maritime Organization of the province Hasan Ibrahimi said.

“The first phase of the port was fully commissioned,” Ibrahimi added, Trend reports referring to the organization’s website.

Ibrahimi added that the project of developing the Shahid Beheshti port will be implemented in five stages.

“With commissioning the fifth stage, Iran's Shahid Beheshti port will be connected with the Shahid Kalantari port,” the director general added.

While commenting on the operation of the passenger ship between Iran’s Chabahar and Oman’s Muscat, Ibrahimi said that it will begin to operate from January 22, 2020.

Ibrahimi said that a contract with a private shipping company has been signed and marine tourism will be intensified.

Ibrahimi added that in the previous years, a passenger ship capable of transporting 240 passengers and 40 vehicles was put into operation between Chabahar and Muscat.

“However, activity was suspended due to the lack of support by some structures and the private sector’s unwillingness to assist in this issue,” the director general said.
