Uzbekistan aims to boost economic activity of Surkhandarya region

Volume of territorial GDP in Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan in 1Q2020 amounted to 4.7 trillion soum ($459.8 million), Trend reports citing the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan.

This was discussed at the videoconference of The Council (Kengash) of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (parliament), on June 15, 2020.

During the session the issues of social and economic development of Surkhandarya region, solution of problems were discussed, and the heads of sectors provided reports on their work in this direction.

In particular, in the first quarter of 2020, the volume of gross territorial product in the region made up four trillion soum ($391.3 million). Compared to the same period of last year, the growth rate stood at 7.1 percent.

Some 1.6 trillion soum ($156.5 million) of investments were attracted in the economy of the region in the reporting period at the expense of all sources of financing.

Also, 207 enterprises of the region exported goods to 31 foreign countries for 49.6 million soum ($4.8 million) and growth rate made up 23.3 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

At the meeting it was noted that the activity of all sectors of the region is ineffectively organized, the work in this direction is not established on a systematic basis.
