Review of Georgian export to China in January-May 2020

Georgia exported 88,528 tons of copper ores to China in a total amount of $131.1 million from January through May 2020, Trend reports referring to National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In the reporting period, Georgia exported 1,294 tons of wine of fresh grapes worth $5.01 million to China. Over the same period of 2019, 2,169 tons of wine totaling $7.5 million was exported from Georgia to China.

Meanwhile, 8.6 tons of instruments and appliances used in medicine worth $2.7 million were exported from Georgia to China. This is 22.7 tons less compared to January-May 2019.

During the reporting period, Georgia exported 982.3 tons of ginger, saffron, turmeric, thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spices in the amount of $2.7 million to China. During January-May 2019, export of spices from Georgia to China amounted to 722 tons totaling $1.2 million.

Meanwhile, Georgia exported 9,007 tons precious metal ores and concentrates worth $20.7 million to China.

China ranked third in Georgia’s commodity circulation during the reporting period.

From January through May 2020, the foreign trade turnover between Georgia and China amounted to more than $443.1 million, which is 10.5 percent of the total trade turnover of Georgia.

During the reporting period, Georgia exported products worth $168.4 million to the Chinese market, which is 16.9 percent of total exports from Georgia.

Meanwhile, China exported products worth $274.7 million to the Georgian market, which comprises 13.6 percent of total import to Georgia.
