About 15 trillion rials ($357 million) were paid to wheat farmers in Iran on June 27, said Mohammad Taghi Tabatabaee, head of public relations department of Government Trading Corporation of Iran, Trend reports citing the corporation's website.
According to Tabatabaee, this amount makes up about 83 percent of the funds that have been paid to farmers for wheat purchased so far.
Tabatabaee added that more than 4 million tons of wheat worth more than 100 trillion rials (about $2.38 billion) have been purchased from farmers so far.
The official said that the purchased wheat increased by 7 percent in terms of volume and by 57 percent in terms of value.
So far, 234,000 tons of rapeseed worth 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) have been purchased from farmers.
The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
