Iran's agricultural production increased from 97 million tons to 125 million tons over the last seven years (the current Iranian government has been in power since August 2013), deputy minister of Agriculture, Jihad Kambiz Bazerghan said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.
He remarked at a press conference dedicated to the occasion of Government Week (August 23-29).
The deputy minister said that the number of startup companies in Iran's agricultural sector has increased from 279 to 800 over the last seven years.
Bazerghan added that seed production in Iran increased from 330,000 tons to 426,000 tons during the reporting period.
As reported, Iran is expected to produce more than 130 million tons of agricultural products in the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 - March 21, 2021).
Iran exported about 7.1 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $5.82 billion in the last Iranian year. Additionally, 6.94 million tons of food and agricultural products worth $6.39 billion were imported.
