Uzbekistan, India in talks over bilateral co-op in healthcare sphere

Uzbekistan and India discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (FICCI) organized an Uzbek-Indian business forum on October 21, 2020.

The co-chairman of the Uzbek-Indian business forum, ex-President of the women's organization of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (FICCI Ladies Organization) Harjinder Kaur Talwar made an opening speech, noting that this event will create additional opportunities for the development of mutually beneficial and long-term relations between representatives business in Uzbekistan and India.

She also noted that economic cooperation is undoubtedly one of the priority areas of cooperation between our countries.

The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Adham Ikramov expressed his gratitude to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and the Ambassadors of both countries for their efforts to develop bilateral economic cooperation and support small and medium businesses.

Also, the Uzbek side noted that Uzbekistan attaches great importance to strengthening the centuries-old friendship and strategic partnership between the countries.

During the forum, the participants got acquainted with promising areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, including the implementation of joint projects in trade and investment areas.

The parties also discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation, such as healthcare and pharmaceuticals. It is in them that Indian companies now occupy the most active positions in Uzbekistan.

In particular, the list of the projects implemented in Uzbekistan includes a pharmaceutical plant with Cadila Pharmaceuticals ($50 million), Sharda University in the areas of ICT, engineering, business, which is open and successfully operating and Amity University and Technopark of software products and information technologies.

The volume of mutual trade with India for 8M2020 amounted to $198.4 million, including exports for $8 million and imports for $190.3 million.

As of July 1, 2020, 277 enterprises with the participation of Indian capital operate in the territory of Uzbekistan, of which 175 are individual entrepreneurs and 102 joint ventures.
