BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 28. Iran imported essential products (including wheat, barley, rice, corn, cooking oils, etc.) worth $13.6 billion, weighing 20.9 million tons in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Trend reports.

Data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran’s essential products import dropped by 8.24 percent in value, while increasing by 0.2 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The top 5 essential products imported by Iran for the past 10 months are:

- Corn worth $3.22 billion;

- Cooking oils worth around $2.17 billion;

- Various oilseeds (mainly soybean seed) worth $1.9 billion;

- Rice worth $1.11 billion;

- Wheat worth $1 billion.

The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at about 32.7 million tons, worth around $54.4 billion, in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
